the first trial 01/11/07 : first trial at Villedomer. The balloon didn't have the shape we expected. In fact we made a mistake when we stuck the different pieces together. |

The second trial
This second trial was realised at lycée vaucanson. We expected perfect atmospheric conditions but there was some wind. A very bad idea! After a 10 minute flight the wind blew the balloon away. The rope broke. Look at the picture of our balloon flying away.

The trial in the gymnasium
In order to satisfy our impatience we decided to do a test in the gymnasium to obtain precise and concrete measurements.

The trial at Vouvray the day before Christmas
On the day before Christmas we managed to perform a perfect trial. A total absence of cloud, a light dew on the ground and no wind. This trial was the key which allowed us to associate theory and practice.

The round balloon We decided to build a round balloon of 5m in diameter(our thanks to laurent besset who provided us with the design on his site www.persowanadoo/ballonsolaire/). However we gave up the idea of releasing the balloon in April because the temperature gradient at this time of the year was insufficient to carry the basket... Indeed, to put the different parts of the balloon together we used a lot of adhesive tape which weighed it down. trial of 26/01/08
Our balloon raised about 3.5 kg in addition to its own weight (2 kg)
great view from below
Notice the distribution of the tension on the different ropes in order to avoid the tearing of the opening.
